A Very Warm Welcome

Hello, and welcome to ‘Cycling Tours of Yorkshire’ My name is Andrea Wood, I’m a keen road cyclist and when nearly 20 years of marathon running started to take it's toll in my joints I decided to buy my first road bike in 2013...I haven't looked back since.

Cycling is my passion, verging on an obsession perhaps, but I cannot imagine life without cycling over the amazing North York Moors National Park and the beautiful countryside surrounding it.

Exercise has always been my 'go-to' when times get rough, and cycling has helped me to cope with some very challenging episodes in my life. Some women might turn to wine or chocolate, for me it is my bike that puts me in a better place every time. (Then I can eat the chocolate!) I think I can safely say that without my bike I may well have wound up on Prozac.

About Cycling Tours

I spent summer of 2016 cycling in the Pyrenees researching the possibility of starting a cycle tours business over there.

However, the more people I spoke to, the more I realised how much interest there is in Yorkshire as a cycling destination.

Although I have never taken where I live for granted, I simply hadn't appreciated just how appealing my homeland was to cyclists from around the world.

Cycling Tours of Yorkshire? Why not indeed?

God's Own County

‘God's Own County’ is blessed with miles of quiet cycling-friendly roads, stunning scenery and quality food and drink establishments all of which contribute to a dream experience on two wheels, and indeed Yorkshire has deservedly become the capital of road cycling in this country.

After the success of Le Grand Depart in 2014, Welcome to Yorkshire's Tour de Yorkshire and more recently the announcement that the UCI World Road Cycling Championships are to be held here in 2019, Yorkshire has indeed been put firmly on the map as a Cycle Tourism destination.

Fabulous decent into Hutton Le Hole from North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

This evolving website will ultimately host a wealth of information for the cyclist wishing to experience what North Yorkshire has to offer. From accommodation to routes, Sportives, challenges, eateries, watering holes, mechanics and bike hire. We aim to provide the travelling cyclist with everything they will need to make a visit to Yorkshire one that they will never forget.

We will also put together short breaks for the person who doesn't have the time to do the research and booking themselves.

Ladies' Cycling

Ladies' cycling is also a subject close to my heart. Not surprisingly some women are intimidated by groups of Lycra clad men; the success of British Cycling’s initiative ‘Breeze’ is evidence of the need for Ladies only group rides and breaks, which enable the female cyclist to experience the same adventures as their male counterparts without feeling left behind or under pressure to keep up.

Andrea is a trained Breeze Champion and will be leading Ladies's only rides and tours in Yorkshire and to the Pyrenees from 2018

Cycling tours of Yorkshire

From 2018 Cycling Tours of Yorkshire will offer just that; fully guided and supported tours from Leeds to the East Coast taking in some of the iconic routes made famous by Le Grand Depart and the Tour de Yorkshire. We are lucky enough to have incredibly varied scenery which ranges from the rolling hills of the Wolds, to the sharp, bar gripping inclines within the North York Moors National Park.

Dates and tour details will appear here Autumn 2017, follow our blog to see the routes unravel during the summer.
